This song is an almost perfect translation for me. It doesn't happen very often. Winter (song #57) was an almost perfect translation as well. My only measure of success is how closely the song I create resembles what I heard in my head or how well it represents what I was thinking.
Every single umpire's been wrong once in his life. Every single referee's made a bad call once or twice. Every single judge has second guessed his final call. Every single athlete's been slammed against the wall. But in hindsight I've made more than my fair share. Some people got it in 'em, but some of us aren't aware. I liked it overall, thought there was a bit of a disconnect between the first part of the song and the part where you get into the hindsight stuff...

So you (whoever you are) are the second person to mention this disconnect. I guess I could explain since I don't want to modify the lyrics. The first part is saying that 'everyone makes mistakes'. The second part is saying 'even so, looking back, I feel like I've made more than most people' and then it finishes with saying 'and my biggest mistake of all was probably being afraid of a life with someone who loved me because at least I had someone who loved me'.
