I wanna be an Indian. I wanna be an Indian. Well men we don't know what's ahead, on the Colorado River we might end up dead. The river twists and drops and falls from sight but a man who keeps his cool, well he could be alright. Two of you are weak and you will climb up higher to get out of the canyon but into the fire. The indians will get you, they'll get you way up there. There's no going home with your scalp or your hair. I wanna be an indian. I wanna be an Indian.
#72: I Want to be An Indian
It's taken almost two weeks for me to get this next song posted because I left my power supply in Paris and I couldn't record for a week. But it wasn't wasted time since I used that time to write some other stuff and read a few books (Law of Dreams; Everything is Illuminated; Madame Bovary). During this time I was slowly working on a song and it was called 'One More Song'; a song about what relationships take to 'work' and about giving things 'one more try'. I thought the structure was good, the lyrics were pretty good, the melody was alright...but I still hated the song, a lot. I was searching online one day for 'the greatest adventure books of all time' and I read about the men who first explored the Colorado river. Then a few days later it occurred to me: this song shouldn't be about relationships, it should be about Indians scalping people! So I let my mind go, re-worked the entire song in one day and this is what was created.
