#29: Have You Heard The News?

Being unemployed I can't afford to pay my winter energy bill so it looks like I'll have to head to Colombia in the cold months. I figured I would email my very wonderful Colombian ex-girlfriend from 10 years ago to get some advice. We've emailed back and forth a bit and in one of her emails she mentioned that she still sings a song I wrote years ago called 'have you heard the news'. It's a really basic little tune but it is pretty catchy. I wrote it at Camp PineCrest waiting for the kids to show up. I was wearing a promotional t-shirt from 680 News. The print said '680 News: Have you Heard the News?' And so I wrote this song that day. Ben Dermer and I have since performed this song on stage in the once slumbering now hibernating band United Empire Loyalists but this is the first recording. 

Have you heard the news? Everybody's talking about getting up and walking away. Have you heard the news? People are singing, everything is changing today. Did you know I think everyone I know is gonna have to choose? Did you know I think you better hold on now you've got everything to lose today? And these days I find you are asking me is your secret worth more? In time you will find you are hurting me, but it don't matter no more 'cause you know you're not the one I was looking for. But with you here in my arms you will be adored like that, yeah just like that.
